Born, raised and spent nearly a lifetime in New Jersey. Married to Shelby Grifo Swayze, we have three lovely, smart grown children – in Philadelphia, Maryland and Colorado.

If you know me professionally, you know that I was employed by the Union County Division of Social Services for forty-three years, retiring in 2015. In the past I was known as Mr. Home Energy having served as the local Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Coordinator. For a number of years I coordinated the TANF component of the Work First New Jersey program, helping welfare families secure employment and training through a network of schools, nonprofits, and the workforce development community.

Beginning my days as a college radical – head of the Vietnam Moratorium Committee (10/15/69 nationwide anti-war protest) at Essex County College – I remain active in the area of low income energy assistance, serving on the board of New Jersey SHARES the statewide energy nonprofit and as a member of the National Energy & Affordability Coalition and the Anti-Poverty Network of New Jersey. When I’m not listening to music or drinking a good pint of ale you might catch me on my Facebook page or updating the New Jersey Community Resources website.
