Editor’s Note – For a more current list of New Jersey Congressional delegation’s, telephone numbers, and district office locations see the January 5, 2013 post, “Contacting Congress”.
You may have thought by winning the election all our unresolved issues would fall into place. Not so easy. Keep in mind the rich and powerful do not relinquish power easily. To improve our situation may require a bit of organizing, again.
As you surf the web you may discover a number of websites pointing you in the right direction by voicing your opinions with your elected officials in Washington. With only a few weeks left until the “fiscal cliff” arrives you may wish to get in touch with your Congressman. (Sorry, no women in Congress from New Jersey since Marge Roukema, who served 1981-2003). Several sites will identify who your Congressman is if you don’t know. Check out the following:
Communicating with Congress – by Congress.org – providing a lot of tips such as the fact that our representatives prefer to receive email. However, it gives the phone number for the U.S. Capital Switchboard, 202-224-3121.
Contacting the Congress – by Juan Cabanela. A site that has been around since 1995. Enter your address to identify who your representative is, and then complete a form. Almost as easy as sending a postcard.
Find Your Representative – by U.S. House of Representatives. “Identify your member and let your opinion be heard.”
Take Action to Avert the Fiscal Cliff – by New Jersey State AFL-CIO.
If you wish to telephone your Representative, listed below are the telephone numbers of each member’s Washington and district offices. Phone calls are most often taken by a staff member. Ask to speak to the aide or legislative assistant who handles the issue of your concern. Also listed is the link to each Representative’s email contact form.
